Meet the Host: Kris Perry
Screen Deep host Kris Perry took the helm as Executive Director of Children and Screens: Institute of Media and Child Development in May 2022, at a critical juncture in the movement to create a safer online environment for kids. Kris brings both knowledge and passion to Screen Deep, skillfully facilitating conversations, making complex research accessible, and engaging both expert guests and curious listeners alike. Before joining Children and Screens, Kris served as Senior Advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom and Deputy Secretary of the California Health and Human Services Agency, where she led the creation of the California Master Plan for Early Learning and Care.
A dedicated advocate for children, Kris has worked to protect kids, improve early learning programs, and secure investments for low-income families. She also played a key role in restoring marriage equality to California, following the landmark 2013 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Hollingsworth v. Perry, an experience she chronicled in her book Love on Trial (Roaring Forties Press, 2017).
